Procedure for calibration of conductivity meter (PICO)
OBJECTIVE
To lay down the procedure for calibration of pH / CONDUCTIVITY METER (PICO)
SCOPE
This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is applicable for pH meter (PICO).
RESPONSIBILITY
Quality Control Executive / Officer.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Quality Control Manager
PROCEDURE
Operate the Instrument as per procedure no. BA(II)QA217
Calibrate the instrument by preparing the three standard solutions as given in Table – 1 (BP standards) of potassium chloride using carbon dioxide free water. Prepare it from distilled water, the conductivity of which does not exceed 2s cm-1.
Table – 1
S No. | Standard | Wt in g | Dilution
(With water) |
Acceptance Criteria | Tolerance |
1. | KCl | 0.7455 | 1000ml | 1330 µs cm-1. | ± 2 % of Standard value. |
2. | 0.0746 | 1000ml. | 133 µs cm-1 | ||
3. | 0.0149 | 1000ml. | 26.6 µs cm-1. |
Press enter, Display show: Solu. Value : 1330 1) μS 2) mS :
Press enter, Display shows: Enter Soln. Cond. : – Enter solution actual conductivity.
For Cell K=0.1 enter 0.1 by using numerical key.
Display shows: Enter Cell Const: –
Select COND. mode then press CAL key.
Press [ 1 ] for Micro seimens unit.
Press enter, Display show: Enter Coefficient: __ Press 2.0 to enter Coefficient.
Press enter, Display show: ATC at: 1>25°C 2>20°C
To select ATC temperature press [ 2 ].
Press enter, Display show: Select TEMPO Mode: 1) Auto 2) manual Select [ 1 ] for Auto.
Press Enter, Display show: Wait ! Stabilising…⇒ Enter if stable rdg. Con = xxxx
Press enter, Display show:Cell constant = n.xyz Con= xxxx μS No. xx C K = xxxx * 20.0°C
After getting the actual cell constant feed it into the instrument, then check the conductivity of another two solution.
Record the observation as per given in Annexure I.
After completion of calibration rinse the electrode 2-3 times with distilled water, remove the excess water by soaking it with lint free tissue paper, keep the electrode and RTD sensor in purified water solution.
Fill the details of the calibration status in the label pasted on the Instrument / Apparatus.
After completion of analysis make entry in respective logbook.
Report any discrepancy observed during calibration to Quality Control Manager and notify the defect to engineering department or Service Engineer of the instrument. Affix an Under Maintenance label on the instrument.
