SOP on Operation of Effluent Treatment Plant

  • Objective:
    • To lay down the procedure for operation of Effluent Treatment Plant.
  • Scope:
    • This SOP is applicable for engineering department for operation of effluent treatment plant at formulation plant.
  • Responsibility:
    • Technician/above –Engineering. Department is responsible for operation of ETP Plant.
  • Accountability:
  • Head- Engineering. Shall be accountable for implementation and compliance of SOP
  • Procedure:
    • Ensure the following before starting-up the plant.
      • Ensure sufficient level of sewage water shall be in Equalization tank (Sewage) and effluent water in Oil and Grease Tank (OGT).
      • Take  Equalization tanks  in line by opening inlet effluent valve and make sure that effluent starts coming into the tank from OGT.
    • When there is sufficient level of water in Equalization tank , Close inlet effluent valve and open the inlet effluent valve to the other Equalization tank.
    • Dose sufficient quantity of NaOH to maintain pH in the range of 10-11 in Equalization tank to which inlet supply is closed.
    • Switch On the Effluent transfer pump  to transfer effluent (of 10-11 pH) to Flash mixer tank.
    • Put the Agitator in Flash mixer ‘ON’ and start dosing pump to dose Alum in flash mixer tank.
    • Switch ON the sewage transfer pumps  to transfer sewage into Saff reactor.picture 1 18 -
  • Over flow of Flash mixer should flow to the Secondary tube settler and then to saff reactor.
  • Keep the Air blower  “ON” and open air valves to saff reactor.
  • Over flow of saff reactor should flow to the secondary tube settler-2 and followed by saff reactor-2.
  • Open the dosing tank outlet valve to dose Urea, DAP and Gur to saff reactor-1 and 2.
  • Effluent water under treatment from saff reactor-2 should flow to secondary tube settler -3 where the final settling of microbial bacteria takes place and over flow of secondary tube settler flows to Feed Sump.
  • Switch ON the high pressure pumps  to transfer water from feed sump to MGF and ACF.
  • Take MGF and ACF in line and make sure water flows from feed sump to treated effluent storage tank.
  • Perform backwash of MGF and ACF once in a shift.
  • Keep ‘ON’ sludge transfer pump to transfer settled sludge from secondary tube settler-2 and 3 to saff reactor 1 and 2 respectively.
  • When the settled sludge in secondary tube settlers 1, 2 and 3 is required to be transferred to sludge drying bed, start the sludge transfer pump  and open its outlet valve to transfer to sludge drying bed and also open inlet valves to sludge drying beds.
  • Keep ‘ON’ the Treated effluent transfer pumps to transfer treated effluent water to gardening purpose as per requirement.

Gloves 4 -

  • Pump out the upper layer from OGT to remove the oil and greases present in effluent once in a day.
  • Collect water samples at inlet of OGT and outlet of ACF and send to QC department for analysis twice in a shift.
  • Also collect tank samples from saff reactor-1 and 2 and check MLSS present in saff reactors.
  • Maintain the records.
