SOP for operation of shrink wrapping machine
- Objective:
- To lay down a procedure for operation of shrink wrapping machine.
- Scope:
- This SOP is applicable for shrink wrapping machine.
- Responsibility:
- Officers or above – Production.
- Accountability:
- Production Head.
- Abbreviations
- SOP : Standard Operating Procedure.
- Procedure:
- Pre-startup:
- Check the status of the machine for its operation.
- Visually check the machine and surrounding area for cleanliness.
- Visually check that there is no material of the previous batch.
- Write the Batch No., Product Name, Date and signature on the machine status tag.
- Take the shrink film roll as per the requirement of the product and place the machine
- Start up:
- Switch ‘ON’ the mains electric supply to the machine.
- Turn the main switch of the machine to “ON” position.
- Machine briefly goes through a self test and after approx.10 minutes machine ready for operation.
- Set the shrink film roll on the stand provided on the right hand side of the machine.
- Setting procedure:
- Firstly select any program from P01 to P16 by repeatedly pressing the program selection (P) key.
- Select the conveyer belt speed by pressing “B. Speed” key and set the required speed by pressing UP/ Increment & down / decrement keys. After that press the enter key (E) to confirm the change. Range– 0 to 20 for maximum speed of 9 meters/minute.
- Select the temperature of the tunnel conveyer belt by pressing “B. Heat” key and set the required temperature by pressing UP/ Increment & down / decrement keys. After that press the enter key (E) to confirm the change. Range – 1 to 20.
- Select the temperature of the tunnel heater by pressing “T. TEMP” key and set the required temperature by pressing UP/ Increment & down / decrement keys. After that press the enter key (E) to confirm the change. Range – 0 to 99 corresponding to an average tunnel temperature of 100 to 230.
- Select &set the required time for cooling the film after impulse sealing by pressing “Cool” key. Range-1 to 9 for a maximum of 2 seconds.
- Select & set the impulse current time as per requirement through the sealing wire by pressing “Seal” key. Range-0.1 to 2.5 seconds.
- The machine is counting all sealing cycles which is equivalent to products being shrink wrapped. Range – 0000 to 9999.
- Note: After any change of any parameter press the enter key to confirm the change.
- Operation:
- Load the cartons on the product platform of the machine to shrink wrapping.
- Set the product discharge platform according to product height.
- Set the conveyer belt speed, temperature of tunnel conveyer belt, temperature of the tunnel heaters according to the quality of shrink film.
- Set the impulse current time & shrink film cooling time according to the sealing quality.
- After getting the Approval of shrink wrapped pack, from production/ In-process quality assurance officers continue the shrink wrapping operation.
- Before starting the shrink wrapping operation reset the counter to 0000 position by pressing the UP/ Increment & down decrement keys together.
- Set the shrink film roll with a new one after completion of the previous roll.
- Continue the operation till completion of batch.
- Clean the sealing wire during the sealing operation & completion of the batch by activating an impulse current through the sealing wire for 0.5 seconds in order to heat the wire and loosen any plastic residue for removal by operator using cloth.
- Shut down:
- Remove the left over shrink film roll after completion of the batch.
- After completion of the batch /days work, press the cool down push button on the control panel for tunnel cooling.
- Switched “OFF” the tunnel heaters of the machine.
- Air blower, exhaust fan and conveyer belt keeping running for some time.
- After about 10 minutes, all the functions of the machine, belt, blowers stop. After that display “cdn” on the control panel.
- Turn the main switch of the machine to “OFF” position.
- Switch ‘OFF’ the mains electric supply to the machine.
- Destroy and dispose off rejected shrink film as per SOP.
- Record the operation, cleaning and maintenance details in the equipment log book as per SOP get it checked by production officer
