SOP FOR PROCEDURE FOR NUMBERING, CLEANING AND SANITIZATION OF DRAIN POINTS

PURPOSE:  The purpose of this Standard Operating Procedure is to provide guidance for numbering, cleaning and sanitization of drain points.       

SCOPE: This procedure is applicable for numbering, cleaning and sanitization of drain points of all department.

RESPONSIBILITY:

Preparation of SOP: Officer/ Sr. Officer

Checking and Review of the SOP: Executive/Sr. Executive

Approval of SOP: Head of Department/ Assistant Manager

Authorization of SOP:  Head QA/Designee

QA person shall be responsible for allocating drain points lD to all areas of company premises.

User department shall be responsible for cleaning and sanitization of drain points.

User Department head or his/her designee shall be responsible for the overall compliance of the SOP.

ACCOUNTABILITY: Head QA or his/ her designee shall be accountable for the proper implementation of the SOP.

PROCEDURE:

Definition:

Cleaning: An act of removing dirt or any undesirable material.

Sanitization: A reduction of the microbial population to a safe level as determined by public health standards.

Material Requirement:

  • Disinfectant solution
  • Sterile swab stick
  • Lint Free Mop.
  • Purified Water

Precaution

Wear nose masks and hand gloves while handling sanitization solution.

Avoid any spillage of disinfectant solution on floor.

Procedure:

Drain Point Numbering:

Drain points of various departments shall be assigned a unique lD. No. as per the steps   described below: DRP/XX/001

The first, second and third character shall be ‘DRP’ denoting Drain point.

The fourth character shall be ‘/’ (slash). The fifth and sixth character shall ‘XX’ denoting the department code where drain point is located. The codes for each department shall be as follows:

TB: Tablet, CC: Capsule, DS: Dry Syrup, MB: Microbiology, QC: Quality Control, QA: Quality Assurance, EG: Engineering, WH: Warehouse.

The seventh character shall be ‘/’. The eighth, ninth and tenth characters shall be the numerical digits for the serial number of drain point. The first number of the drain point shall be 001, 002, and 003 and so on.

E.g. the complete lD. No. of drain point of microbiology department shall be ‘DRP/MB/001’ and Quality Control shall be ‘DRP/QC/001’ respectively.

Record the drain point numbering of various departments”.

Cleaning & Sanitization:

Disinfectant for drain cleaning shall be issued from warehouse as per SOP “Procedure for cleaning and disinfection of area”

Following solutions shall be used for sanitization of the drain points:

  • lmagard 40L-0.4%.
  • lmagard Biquat- 1.0%.

Above mentioned sanitization solution shall be used on the rotational basis for every week.

Details of Disinfectant preparation shall be recorded as per Format No. SOP/C/QA038-F03 “Dilute Disinfectant Record”.

Cleaning and sanitization procedure for GMP Drain:

Open the lid of the drain point and remove the filter from the surface of drain.

Clean the filter with nylon brush and dipped in the disinfectant solution.

Remove the non-returnable valve from the drain.

Disassemble the non-returnable valve by removing the gasket and clean all parts with nylon brush dipped in disinfectant solution.

Clean the internal surface of the drain.

Approximate 5.0 liters of purified water shall be poured and allowed to drain completely.

Fill the non-returnable valve of the drain with routine prepared disinfectant completely.

Again assemble all the parts of the drain in the same sequence as removed.

Cleaning and sanitization procedure for normal Drain

The lid on the drain point shall be opened and the filter plate shall be removed from the drain.

The lid and filter plate of drain points shall be cleaned with the nylon brush and dipped in sanitization solution.

Approximate 5.0 liters of purified water shall be poured and allowed to drain completely.

200 ml quantity of freshly prepared sanitization solution shall be poured into the drain.

After completion of cleaning, again fix the filter plate on the drain and finally cover the drain with lid.

After cleaning and pouring of the sanitization solution, the drain shall not be used for 30 minutes.

Record the cleaning and sanitization of drain point “Cleaning and sanitization record of drain point”.

Frequency for cleaning and sanitization of drain point:

Drain points of all areas of the facility shall be cleaned as per the frequency

Class C – Once in a week

Class D – Once in a Fortnightly

Unclassified area – Once in a month
