Operating Procedure for Incinerator

  • Objective :To lay down a procedure for Operation of Incinerator.
  • Scope :This Standard Operating Procedure is applicable for the formulation plant of pharmaceutical company.

 

  • Responsibility:
  • Concerned Technician/Operator shall be responsible for operating the Incinerator as per this SOP.
  • Officer/ Executive- Engineering shall be responsible for the implementation of this SOP.
  • Accountability:Head Engineering and shall be responsible for compliance of this SOP.
  • Abbreviations and Definitions:
  • MCC : Machine control Center
  • ID Fan : Induced Draft Fan
  • FD Fan : Forced Draft Fan
  • SOP : Standard Operating Procedure
  • ETP : Effluent Treatment Plant
  • pH :Negative of log of hydrogen ion concentration
  • HSD : High Speed diesel
  • HSD : High Speed Diesel
  • Procedure
  • Pre-Start up 
  • Ensure that there shall be sufficient HSD in the storage tank which will be available near to Incinerator plant.
  • Collect the Hazardous Waste material.
  • Closed the drain Valve of the Wet Scrubber / Ventury Scrubber Tank and Condensate traps.
  • Fill the Wet Scrubber Tank with water.
  • Prepared 5% caustic solution in the Ventury Scrubber tank

Note:-  5 % Caustic Solution-5gm caustic w/v in 100 ml water.

  • Start the Wet Scrubber Recirculation Pump for recirculation from Wet Scrubber to tank ensuring smooth functioning.
  • Start the Ventury Scrubber Recirculation Pump for recirculation from Ventury Scrubber to tank ensuring smooth functioning.
  • Open the FD air valve of the Primary & Secondary chamber.
  • Operation of
    • Start the ID and FD fan
    • Set the temperature as follows:-
    • PRIMARY CHAMBER: 850 0C ± 50oC
    • SECONDARY CHAMBER: 1050 0C ± 50oC
  • Switch ON Primary Chamber Burner and allow the temperature to reach to 5000
  • Now Switch ON Secondary Chamber Burner and allow the temperature to reach to 1000.
  • Note the Pre heat Start Time for Secondary Chamber as per Annexure-I.
  • Immediately closed the door.
  •  All other operations shall be carried out simultaneously while the Incinerator is in operation.
  • As burning is over, allow it to cool for at least half an hour. Open the Charging door and look for space available for charging next lot.
  • If ash accumulates in the Primary chamber, pull it by opening the de-ashing  door.
  • Charge the material again after cleaning the ash from the first lot.
  • Check the pH of the wet scrubber and ensure that it shall be always neutral.
  • Drain the Condensate trap time to time, drain shall be discharged in ETP.
  • During operation, water from Wet Scrubber shall be replenished from time to time and shall be discharged in ETP.
  • The Caustic Concentration shall also be replenished from time to time and shall be discharged in ETP.

  • Logbook of Incinerator : Annexure-I
  • Distribution:
  • Master Copy – Documentation Cell
  • Controlled Copies – Engineering, Production, Quality Assurance,Warehouse, Quality Control, Administration and Housekeeping.
