SOP of Operation and backwash of Multigrade filter

Objective

To lay down the procedure for operation and backwash of Multigrade filter.

 Scope

This SOP is applicable for operation and backwash of Multigrade filter.to formulation plant of Pharmaceutical Company.

Responsibility

Technician/above –Eng. is responsible for operation and backwash of Multi grade filter.

Accountability

Department Head & QA Head shall be accountable for implementation of this SOP.

Procedure

Ensure that raw water pumps are in running position and inlet valve and          discharge valve are in open condition.

Open the inlet valve and air release valve, when all the air is removed, close the air release valve.

Open the rinse outlet valve and allow the water to drain.

Rinse the water for 5 minutes & check the water quality, if ok open the service outlet valve.

The unit will come into service.

Check the inlet and outlet pressure across the filter; differential pressure shall not be more than 0.35 kg / cm2.

Following steps shall be followed for stopping the Multi Grade Filter:

Put the pretreatment in off mode.

Close the service inlet valve  and service outlet valve .

Open the air release valve to depressurize the unit.

 Backwash :

Ensure that raw water pumps are in running position and inlet valve and discharge valve are in open condition.

Close the MGF inlet valve and outlet valve.

Open the backwash outlet valve fully.

Open the backwash inlet valve.

Ensure that the filter media is not being lost to drain; if slight media loss is observed, reduce the backwash flow by throttling the valve.

After specified duration of 10 minutes or when the water in the drain sump is clear, close the backwash outlet valve and open the air release valve.

When all the air is expelled from the unit, close the backwash inlet valve and air release valve.

Rinse:

Open the inlet valve and drain valve.

When the water in the drain sump is clear, close the drain valve.

Open and adjust the outlet valve to get the desired flow to service.

Check that differential pressure across the filter shall not be more than 0.35 kg/cm2.

Frequency of backwash shall be maintained daily except holidays

Record all the parameters as per Annexure.
